Unit Assistant – Maplewood

Maplewood Nursing Home is looking for a Full Time Unit Assistant for one of the residential floors

Position is 40 hours a week with a schedule of

  • Monday and Tuesday 7:30 to 3:30
  • Wednesday, Thursday and Friday – 8:00am to 4:00pm

Starting pay $18.32, previous experience will be considered when setting rate of pay

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Nursing, responsible for providing general clerical and secretarial support and organization on a Nursing Unit.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Pulls charts for physician re-certifications and orders to be signed.
  • Answers the telephone on the unit and delivers messages; greets visitors and directs them to appropriate locations.
  • Sends department related facsimiles to appropriate locations as directed. Makes photocopies as needed.
  • Tracks, request and orders all laboratory related tests for each resident on assigned floor, follow established protocols, policies and procedures.
  • Sets up new admission charts; breaks down discharge charts; and prepares for the Medical Records.
  • Keeps all forms and supplies stocked on the assigned floors nurses’ station, including getting supplies in CSR when needed.
  • Notifies Medical Records of all new/changes in residents’ allergies and diagnosis and capacity changes.
  • Makes sure charts are clean, room numbers are correct and resident’s names are labeled on the chart
  • Provides back-up coverage for other floors during vacations and other absences. Cover receptionist on lunch breaks when needed.

SKILLS:

  • Ability to operate a wide variety of office equipment including computers, photocopy machines and facsimile machines, digital camera and fax machine.
  • Ability to use Microsoft word and excel efficiently, to save documents appropriately in folders/files as well as attaching files to emails, navigate, uploading photos and ability to sign in to other programs to obtain resident records ie. Trident
  • Familiarity and ability to navigate through ECS independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and to establish effective working relationship with other facility personnel.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt quickly to changing priorities
  • Organizational and customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
