Maplewood Nursing Home is looking for a Full Time Chief Operator for our Water & Wastewater Center
Position of Monday to Friday – 40 hours a week
Pay Range is $26.63 to $37.55
GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, responsible for the safe, efficient, and proper operation of the County’s Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations. Ensures delivery of potable drinking water in safe manner. Also performs duties of a Maintenance II Worker.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Insures that all effluent is in compliance with state regulations and provisions of the Environmental Protection Agency discharge permit for the facility.
- Insures that water entering the distribution system meets all state and federal regulations.
- Maintains records and notes; generates reports for state and federal agencies.
- Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance at the Water/Wastewater Treatment Centers, including buildings, grounds, and pumps.
- Performs day-to-day testing of the County’s water and wastewater for compliance with federal, state, and local rules and regulations; performs distribution line and hydrant testing.
- Sets daily chemical dosages in accordance with temperature and water quality; mixes and applies chemicals to systems as necessary to meet permit requirements.
- Recommends budget for lab supplies, testing, and chemicals; develops specifications for bidding and purchasing of new pump station equipment or upgrades to the plant. Manages department budget throughout the year.
- Responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment in proper working order.
- Responsible for knowing and using proper procedures for effective operation of the water and wastewater treatment systems.
- Implements and follows department safety rules, policies, and procedures.
- Conducts tours and discusses plant operations with plant visitors.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promotes and maintains responsive community relations.
- Provides on-call duty for the Maintenance department.
- Performs other related duties as required. (includes plowing in the winter)
- Attends in-service classes
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Duties require knowledge of water and wastewater treatment equivalent to completion of an Associate’s degree and three to five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Grade I Wastewater Treatment License, Grade II Water Treatment License, and Grade II Water Distribution License required.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods related to the operation of water and wastewater treatment plant and the wastewater collection system.
- Knowledge of the functions and servicing requirements of mechanical equipment and machinery common to water and wastewater treatment plants including pumps, motors, and compressors.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations, procedures, and statutes.
- Mathematical aptitude and ability to maintain required records.
- Considerable knowledge of the basic principles of Chemistry, Bacteriology, and sampling and testing techniques for wastewater/water.
- Knowledge and familiarity with NHDES and EPA regulations pertaining to the maintenance and operation of Grade II Treatment Plants.
- Skill in the operation and maintenance of equipment used in work including but not limited to computer equipment, oxygen meters, ph meters, pumps, aeration blowers, corrosive chemicals, confined space retrieval devices, safety equipment, and gas meters for confined space entry.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and to establish positive public relations for the County.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and operational maintenance manuals.
- Ability to read and write English; must not be color blind.
- Ability to read meters and charts accurately and to maintain required records.
- Financial management skills.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervises Water and Wastewater Operators. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Cheshire County’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training, and assisting with scheduling.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Some periods spent outside, requiring exposure to weather conditions.
- Required to climb, bend, stand, walk, and lift.
- Some exposure to high noise and electromagnetic field.
- Exposure to human pathogens and chemicals.
- Potential exists for sustaining bodily harm in the performance of duties.
- May spend periods at terminal, on telephone, or operating other office machines, requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, transfer or carry up to 50 pounds independently.
