Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland Nursing is looking for an Assistant Cook for our Dietary Department

Full Time: (1) 40 hours 12:00pm to 8:00pm including every other weekend

***Sign on Bonus of $1,000***

Pay Rate: $17.77

Shift differential: $2.25 and Weekend differential: $1.75

Under the supervision of the Food Services Director, responsible for preparing food in accordance with standardized recipes, planned menus, and special diet orders

  • Maintains high standards of sanitation in food handling, storage, and the work environment.
  • Receives reports on meals to be served for normal and special diets to residents.
  • Sees that supplies are obtained from storage areas prior to meal production. Uses only approved substitutions.
  • Prepares all food served, following standard recipes and special diet orders. Plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours so that quality, temperature and appearance of food is preserved.
  • May direct and assist in daily and scheduled cleaning duties of the department. Sees that department complies with established sanitary standards.
  • Responsible for care and use of supplies and equipment. Sees that department is in compliance with established sanitation standards and personal hygiene of personnel.
  • Keeps accurate records.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • Duties require knowledge of food preparation and distribution equivalent to completion of a high school diploma and up to one year of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must wear appropriate washable uniforms and a hairnet.
  • Knowledge of proper hygiene and sanitation techniques for food preparation and distribution.
  • Knowledge of safe food handling.
  • Ability to assist with the preparation and cooking of a variety of foods in large quantities.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability and willingness to work harmoniously within a team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with residents, coworkers, and nursing home personnel.
  • Numerical ability to compute quantities of ingredients, to estimate daily food requirements, and to calculate amount of food to be prepared.
  • Ability to detect differences in appearance of food, indicating completion of cooking, deterioration or contamination.
  • Ability to accurately follow recipes.
  • Must maintain a ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certificate.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Required to walk and stand during entire shift.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to hot and cold temperatures while preparing food items.
  • Required to push or pull food service equipment periodically throughout the work day.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • May be exposed to chemical fumes such as bleach, oven cleaner, etc.
