Maplewood Nursing Home Named Among America’s Best Nursing Homes

October 9, 2026

WESTMORELAND, N.H. (October 9, 2026): Maplewood Nursing Home, owned and operated by Cheshire County, has been named to Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Nursing Homes 2027, placing it among the top three nursing homes of 74 in New Hampshire and 20th in the Northeast of 622 homes.

Newsweek reviewed 14,693 nursing homes across the country and recognized 1,325 on this year’s list, meaning fewer than one in ten nursing homes nationwide earned the distinction. Nursing homes are ranked within their own state and grouped by size, so each is measured against peers of similar scale using federal quality data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services along with other measures.

The recognition comes as nursing homes across the country continue to face serious workforce challenges, which makes the strength and consistency of Maplewood’s care team all the more meaningful.

“We are grateful to be recognized by Newsweek as being a top long term care home in our country and specifically in the top three of our state,” said Kathryn Kindopp, Maplewood Nursing Home Administrator. “In turn, we recognize this would not be possible without the support from our elected officials and in particular to our dedicated staff. At the heart of Maplewood remain our residents and families that choose us. Being chosen as a home to live in and to work in is the highest and most important honor we can achieve.”

From its campus in Westmoreland, Maplewood provides long-term skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services to Cheshire County residents. As a county-operated nursing home, Maplewood has long been a place where local residents can receive skilled, compassionate care close to the families and communities they know.

That care is delivered around the clock by Maplewood’s registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and licensed nursing assistants (LNAs), who work alongside the nursing home’s therapy, dietary, housekeeping, maintenance, activities, social services, and administrative staff. Together, they support residents not only with clinical care but with the daily routines, relationships, and small moments that make Maplewood a place residents are proud to live.

“Every resident at Maplewood deserves the highest level of care we can give, and every family who chooses us deserves to know their loved one is in good hands,” said Christopher Coates, Cheshire County Administrator. “That standard is met every single day by the people who work there. Our RNs, LPNs, and LNAs, along with our therapy, dietary, housekeeping, maintenance, activities, and administrative staff, are there around the clock, through holidays and every kind of weather, and this recognition belongs to them. Newsweek has now confirmed what our residents and families already know: Maplewood is a special place because of the people who make it one.”

For Cheshire County families weighing long-term care for a loved one, the recognition offers added confidence that nationally ranked care is available right here in the county.
