Overview
NOTICE OF CHANGE TO MAIL PROCEDURES
At the direction of Cheshire County, NH, effective 8/3/2026 personal mail will no longer be accepted by the facility.
All personal mail must be addressed as outlined below. Failure to properly address the envelope may result in your mail being returned or delayed.
What you should know
- Mail will be received at the Securus Digital Mail Center. If it complies with the agency’s direction and requirements, it will be digitally scanned and available to be viewed via the eMessaging tablets and/or kiosks.
- Pictures and drawings will be accepted for scanning provided they meet the requirements. Pictures, drawings, or other paper that exceed 8.5 x 11 inches and non-paper items will not be accepted for scanning.
- The agency may have additional rules about the types of mail that can and cannot be scanned. Please check with them for more details.
- The Digital Mail Center may determine that mail cannot be scanned both before and after the mail is opened. If the mail cannot be scanned, it will be returned to the sender.
- If a person sends mail that they would like to have returned to them after the mail is scanned, the Digital Mail Center will return the item to them only if they include a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage. If a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage is not included, the mail will be discarded.
- Packages, certified mail, checks, and money orders are not accepted and will be returned to the sender. These must be sent directly to the facility
- All physical mail will be discarded 90 days after it is scanned and uploaded.
Legal mail & publications
If you are an attorney or have legal mail to share with an incarcerated client, DO NOT SEND IT TO THE ADDRESS ABOVE. If you do, it will be returned to the sender unopened. The facility where your client is incarcerated has a specific process for attorney communications and legal mail. Check with the facility and follow their process.
Publications should not be sent to the address above. Publications include mail sent from a publisher, distributor, or authorized retailer. Check with the relevant correctional facility for more information on where publications should be sent.

Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that humane correctional management and respect for human dignity are essential to effective rehabilitation. We provide structured opportunities for treatment, education, and skill building for offenders who seek positive change in their lives. These opportunities may include substance-use and mental-health programming, educational and vocational offerings, reentry planning, and other services designed to reduce recidivism and strengthen long-term outcomes.
Safety and security remain our paramount concerns, both for the public and for those entrusted to our care. Our trained correctional staff work continuously to ensure the secure operation of the facility through professional supervision, evidence-based practices, and clear standards of conduct. At the same time, we strive to maintain an environment that is orderly, respectful, and conducive to rehabilitation.
The Cheshire County Department of Corrections also collaborates closely with community partners, courts, law enforcement, behavioral-health professionals, and treatment providers to support a coordinated approach to corrections. Through this collaboration, we work not only to uphold the law but also to contribute to a safer, healthier, and more resilient community.

Our department’s prime goal is the operation of a safe, humane facility that provides programs and services that afford inmates opportunities for positive change. The department will provide correctional services that will do the following:
Operate a system that provides all necessary due process and other legal safeguards.
Protect society by preventing escape from custody through the establishment of suitable physical and procedural safeguards.
Provide clean, safe, and environmentally healthy living conditions for all inmates according to applicable law and regulation while using a predetermined classification plan.
Provide opportunities for training and treatment programs, including academic and counseling programs that offer inmates the opportunity for positive personal change.
Provide an environment that protects inmates from victimization within the facility.
