CHIEF OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES

Cheshire County is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Chief of Emergency Medical Services (EMS).  Cheshire County operates an EMS department that provides basic and advanced prehospital care for a portion of the county as well as inter facility transfers throughout the region.

Anticipated 2023 EMS operational volume includes response to over 1,000 9-1-1 calls and 2,000 inter facility transfers.  Our growing staff currently includes 26 EMTs – Basic, 6 Advanced EMTs and 11 paramedics.  The department operates from two stations with seven ambulances (a bariatric ambulance is on order), one paramedic intercept unit and two command vehicles.  The annual operating budget is $4.6 million.

The Chief is appointed by and reports to the County Commissioners and is a member of the executive leadership team.  Candidates must have strong, innovative leadership, conflict resolution, planning and managerial skills combined with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a sense of social responsibility.  A proven, successful record of experience in progressively responsible supervisory, administrative and EMS related supervisory assignments is required.

Minimum qualifications include:  Associate’s degree with major coursework in EMS, fire, public health, public administration or business administration or a related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred; plus, six years of EMS experience as a career member in a comparable organization and at least three years of experience as a supervisor/manager in a comparable or larger organization.  A comparable combination of education and experience will be considered.  Candidates must possess or can obtain (within 6 months) New Hampshire Registered Emergency Medical Technician – Advanced certification; paramedic certification preferred.

Candidates must have demonstrated experience and skill within the following critical areas:  budgeting, crafting collaborative interagency relationships, labor management relations, pacing change, overseeing quality assurance/quality improvement, incident command and emergency management.

Salary range to $120,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Residency within the county is required within 6 months of appointment.  Additional information related to this opportunity has been posted at www.mrigov.com/career.
