The County has elected to immediately begin to test for hazardous materials and will work with the winning demolition bidder to coordinate any required abatement process, or, the County may elect at its discretion, to sub-contract any abatement work directly after consultation with the winning demolition bidder. Therefore, submitted bids will not be required to include abatement costs.

Additional information for the Old Jail building:

 Total square footage of building: 25,483 sq. ft.
Total square footage of 1st floor level = 14,931 sq. ft.
Slab thickness = 4” except for two bay garage area which is 5”

The County of Cheshire is requesting proposals from qualified contractors to complete the demolition of a structure at 201 River Road, Westmoreland, NH formerly known as the Cheshire County Department of Corrections Facility.

Scope of Work

The building is partial gutted of interior materials with steel structural members remaining inside the brick and concrete outer walls and in other areas of the building. 

The building may/may not have asbestos or other environmentally hazardous materials inside. The existence, quantity and location of any hazardous materials or asbestos is unknown to the county.

Removal and disposal of hazardous and/or asbestos materials must meet all federal, state, and local requirements. The contractor shall be responsible for obtaining all permits as well as notifications and fees for the demolition and asbestos removal, if applicable.

Demolition includes removal of the structure, miscellaneous debris associated with the structure, and all foundations and slabs. The property is to be graded to a level condition, and seeded.  

The building has had all water, sewer, and electric severed for a number of years however, the Contractor shall be responsible for working with County personnel on any water, and waste water issues and for contacting all utility providers (electric, gas and cable) prior to commencement of demolition, verifying that all utilities have been fully terminated and disconnected.  The work includes the removal and excavation of utilities from the site, specifically the need to work with Eversource Utilities in the removal and / or relocation of an existing transformer that is on-site.

There may be an opportunity to inter demolition debris from the project on adjunct county property.

Bids are to be addressed to the Chris Coates, County Administrator and mailed or delivered to the County of Cheshire, Count Hall Building, 12 Court Street, Keene, NH 03431.   Bids shall be identified on the exterior of the sealed envelope with all the name of the project and the bidder's name and address.

The County of Cheshire is requesting proposals from qualified contractors to complete the demolition of a structure at 219 River Road, Westmoreland, NH formerly known as the Cheshire County “Daycare House”.

Scope of Work

The building is a residential structure of less than 2,000 sq. ft. of wood frame construction. The building will need to be stripped of the existing boiler and appliances.

The building may/may not have asbestos or other environmentally hazardous materials inside. The existence, quantity and location of any hazardous materials or asbestos is unknown to the county.

Removal and disposal of hazardous and/or asbestos materials must meet all federal, state, and local requirements. The contractor shall be responsible for obtaining all permits as well as notifications and fees for the demolition and asbestos removal, if applicable.

Demolition includes removal of the structure, miscellaneous debris associated with the structure, and all foundations and slabs. (An alternate plan to maintain the foundation and bury the demolition debris within the foundation footprint may be considered). There may also be an opportunity to inter demolition debris from the project on adjunct county property. Under all scenarios, the property is to be graded to a level condition, and seeded.
